There are two distinct methods to setting up the database, each with pros and cons.
- Set up the database via the Database Configuration wizard within epiCentre
- This is the more straightforward of the methods
- It only takes a few minutes
- It handles the database creation, database user creation, and creation of the configuration file
- Requires entering the credentials of a 'admin' database account that has privileges to create databases and users and to map them together
- The admin account credentials are ONLY used for the initial connection, database creation, and creation of epiCentre's database access. It is not stored anywhere, nor used for any other purposes
- Set up the database via scripts
- Allows for more control for database administrators
- Allows for DB Admins to actually see what's being done to the database
- Requires manually creating database
- Requires manually mapping database user roles to database
- Still requires using epiCentre to create the config file
