There are two distinct methods to setting up the database, each with pros and cons.

  1. Set up the database via the Database Configuration wizard within epiCentre
    1. This is the more straightforward of the methods
    2. It only takes a few minutes
    3. It handles the database creation, database user creation, and creation of the configuration file
    4. Requires entering the credentials of a 'admin' database account that has privileges to create databases and users and to map them together
  2. Set up the database via scripts
    1. Allows for more control for database administrators
    2. Allows for DB Admins to actually see what's being done to the database
    3. Requires manually creating database
    4. Requires manually mapping database user roles to database
    5. Still requires using epiCentre to create the config file
