Installing palCentre on a new computer

To begin installation - you will receive a link with all the required installers from PCOC. If you have not received this link, please contact us at pcoc@uow.edu.au .

palCentre has several related dependencies, these are:

  • Visual C++ 2005
  • Visual C++ 2005 Update
  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime
  • SQL Server Compact Edition (only required if using an SQL compact database) 

A batch file has been created to install palCentre and the dependencies in a single step and it has been included in the installation file that has been sent to you.


The following steps explain how to install palCentre:

  1. Open the link sent and click on the file called 'DOUBLE CLICK TO INSTALL'

         

2. A warning box will come up, click on 'Run'


3. The installer for Visual C++ 2005 will appear, click on Run

4. Click on 'Yes'

Visual C++ 2005 is now installed


5. The next installer is Visual C++ 2005 Update
Click on Run

6. Click on 'Yes'

Visual C++ 2005 Update is now installed


7. Now install Crystal Reports.

Click on Run


8. This will start the installer running. Click next


9. Accept the license agreement and click on next


10. Click on next

11. Crystal Reports will now install. 
This screen will show that status of installation. The installer progress to the next screen once the installation is complete.




12. Once the following screen comes up, the installation is complete. Click on finish.

Crystal Reports is now installed


13. Now install SQL Compact Server. Click on run.

Please note SQL Compact Server only needs to be installed if you are using a SQL Compact database.
If you are using a SQL Server database, then click on CANCEL when you get to this step - you can go directly to the installation of palCentre.


14. This will start running the installer. Click on next

15. Accept the license agreement and click on next



16. Click on install

17. Once the program has installed, click on finish.

SQL Compact Server is now installed


18. Now install palCentre

Click on Run

19. The setup wizard will open, click on next

20. Click on next


21. Click on next


22. Click on next

23. palCentre will now install. This screen will change when the installation is complete:



24. Once palCentre has finished installing, the following screen will appear. Click on close

palCentre is now installed


25. palCentre and the required dependencies have now been installed. The batch screen should look like this. If not, please contact PCOC. Close the screen below.


Congratulations! palCentre and its dependencies has been installed.

Configuring palCentre

palCentre now needs to be configured to interact with the database. There are 2 ways this can be completed:

  1. Obtaining a copy of the configuration file (easiest method)
  2. follow the palCentre Configuration Wizard


Method 1: Obtaining a copy of the configuration file

If palCentre has been installed and configured on one computer already, you can follow these instructions for any other computer that needs to be configured.

  1. You need a copy of the configuration file. You can either obtain this from PCOC or it is saved on the computer you have already saved palCentre on. The configuration file can be found under C:\palCentre


  2. Put a copy of this file in the folder C:\palCentre on the computer you are configuring.

palCentre is now configured using the Obtaining a copy of the configuration file method


Method 2: follow the palCentre Configuration Wizard

  1. Open palCentre. This will start the configuration wizard
  2. The following screen will open, click on Yes and then next.
  3. Click on SQL compact and then locate the pre-configured database. Enter the password 'pcoc'. Click on next.


  4. Enter the encryption key as per the installation checklist and click on next (usually 12345)


  5. This screen is not required so please click on next



  6. palCentre has now been configured correctly. Click on close.


  7. palCentre will have created a configuration file after this installation process. This file can be found under C:\palCentre\ The file name is palcentre.config


palCentre is now configured using the follow the palCentre Configuration Wizard method
