Whether you are engaged as an educator or learner, as a team, we can improve the end-of-life care in Aged Care Homes for family, residents and the care team.

As a PACOP facilitator or educator in this space you will soon find all the resources needed to implement, embed and sustain the PACOP program into aged care homes, to educate your team members to use the PACOP Profile & Outcomes Collections to systematically assess residents, facilitate early identification of palliative care needs and guide evidence based care to address those needs for residents in aged care and their families.

  • Courses are accessible on computer, phone or smart device.

  • There is no prior learning requirements (Fundamentals and SAS for Care Staff are entry level courses).

  • Learners can complete course sections in a micro-learning approach for efficient time management.

PACOP Fundamentals | University of Wollongong

PACOP Fundamentals Course

  • This online course introduces the PACOP assessments, teaching the fundamental knowledge needed to use PACOP's standardised assessment/response framework in residential aged care. The PACOP model of care supports you with early recognition of deterioration and identification of palliative and end-of-life care needs. You will learn evidence-based clinical responses to deliver evidence-based palliative care and a clinical protocol for a whole team approach.

  • This course is designed for the aged care workforce, targeted at Registered and Enrolled Nurses, to enhance palliative care knowledge and clinical skills in residential aged care homes.

  • Completing the course is free, and there are no prior learning requirements.

  • Upon completion, learners will receive a certificate of completion.

  • The course has a completion time estimate of 4hrs.

PCOC-SAS for Care Staff | University of Wollongong

PCOC-SAS for Care Staff

  • The online course will build confidence in understanding and monitoring symptom distress using an assessment tool. You will learn how to complete the assessment when providing routine care to residents with palliative or end-of-life care needs. The PACOP assessment framework uses a response protocol to escalate symptom distress to Registered Nurses and supervisors, improving communication and the delivery of palliative care for residents.

  • This course aims to support care staff using the PACOP assessment and response framework and may also be used as an introduction to the PCOC-SAS for the broader aged-care workforce.

  • Completing the course is free, and there are no prior learning requirements.

  • Upon completion, learners will receive a certificate of completion.  

  • The course has a completion time estimate of 1-1.5 hours
