How do I extract medication data?

Overview

Patient-reported medication use data that is provided to a pain service via the ePPOC questionnaires is stored within epiCentre, and used to classify medication use in the office use only section. While the information coded in the office use forms part of the standard extract provided to ePPOC, the raw medication data does not. However, it is still stored within epiCentre, and it is possible for individual services to access their own data via a custom (non-standard) extract.

The following is a guide to creating a custom extract containing patient-reported medication data.

Process for creating medication use data

Step 1: In epiCentre, go to the Extract data page:

Step 2: In the Folder text box, enter the location of the folder where you want to save the extracts.

Step 3: Specify the date range that you would like to include in the data extracts.

Step 4: Check the ‘Custom extract’ tick box

Step 5: Select the radio button next to Medications, and ensure that the ‘Include medication’ is checked.

Step 6: Click ‘Extract’.

Step 7: You have now created the requested data extracts, including one that contains the patient-reported medication use data. The simplest way to navigate to the data extracts is to click on the ‘Open extract folder’ button on the ‘Extract complete’ screen.

This will open windows explorer to the location you specified earlier in Step 2, and you should be able to see a file with the label ‘Medications’ at the end of the name.
